Matthew 17"24-27 notes
(Mat 17:24) And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?
(Mat 17:27) Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
a pretty good selection of scriptures, but if we dig in a little deeper, we can see how well God takes care of us.
In verse 24 the word tribute, is:
didrachmon
Thayer Definition:
1) a didrachmon or double drachma, a silver coin equal to two Attic drachmas or one Alexandrian, or one half a shekel
In verse 27 the greek word for piece of money is:
statēr
Thayer Definition:
1) a stater, a coin
1a) in the NT a silver stater equal to four Attic or two Alexandrian drachmas, a Jewish shekel
So Jesus knew exactly how much the tax would be for Him and Peter, and had a fish pick up that exact amount.
